Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

Sharing is caring!

Add some extra protein to your breakfast with this peanut butter banana smoothie that tastes nutty and sweet with a hint of chocolate flavor. The peanut butter provides the protein and the bananas provide the sweetness.

If you’re having a peanut butter craving, pass up the peanut butter bar and give this smoothie a whirl for an alternative option that has no added sugar. I also make this peanut butter chocolate smoothie which is similar.

🍌Ingredients

Peanut butter banana smoothie ingredients prepped on wooden cutting board.
  • whole milk – Feel free to use an alternative milk like oat milk or almond milk.
  • vanilla extract – There is a huge difference in price between natural vanilla extract and artificial vanilla extract which is why I go for the artificial these days, including in this recipe. I buy the club size to save even more money because I use it often. However, every now and then I will splurge on the good stuff because nothing beats that pure flavor. If you can afford it, go for it.
  • cocoa powder – For a hint of chocolatiness.
  • peanut butter – I usually use natural, smooth peanut butter but the regular peanut butter works as well if that is what you prefer.
  • frozen banana slices – Freeze your own or buy them pre-frozen and pre-sliced!
  • fresh banana slices and cinnamon powder – These are optional garnishes.

🥣How to Make it

  1. Add ingredients to blender. Add the milk, vanilla, cocoa powder, peanut butter and bananas to a blender.
  2. Pulse. Pulse until smooth. You may need to stop the blender and mix the contents around a couple of times because it is a thick smoothie and you want to make sure you get all of the chunks blended.
  3. Serve. Transfer to a glass and garnish with fresh banana slices on a mini skewer. Sprinkle with some cinnamon powder if desired.

❓Recipe FAQs

Why do people put peanut butter in smoothies?

Does peanut butter go well with banana?

Peanut butter and banana are a classic and delicious combination that work well together in various dishes, including smoothies. They complement each other’s flavor and texture greatly.

Is crunchy or creamy peanut butter better for smoothies?

This is completely based on personal preference! A chunky peanut butter can add bits of texture into the smoothie if it hasn’t been completely blended up. So the question is, do you like crunch or no crunch?
