While there are endless baked goods and warm drinks, there really aren't many Christmas-themed smoothies out there.

If you're big on smoothies and all things Christmas, this one is an easy way to get into the holiday spirit without touching the oven. It's my go-to smoothie this time of year with its classic cranberry flavor and festive red color.

Some more red smoothies that you might enjoy are this red raspberry smoothie, beet juice smoothie and cherry smoothie recipe.

  • cranberries - I buy them frozen from the grocery store.
  • white cranberry juice - I normally use unsweetened white cranberry juice, which is sweeter than regular, red cranberry juice (seen in picture above) because it's actually a blend of juices that gives it a sweeter finish. If you can't find it, orange juice is a classic combination with cranberries and will work beautifully.
  • agave nectar - You can also use honey or whatever sweetener you prefer. The cranberries are quite tart, so the smoothie needs a little bit of a sugar boost.

How to Make a Cranberry Smoothie

Cranberry smoothie ingredients in food processor.

Step 1. Add ingredients. Add all of the ingredients to a blender or food processor.

Step 2. Blend. Give it a good blend until mostly smooth. I like to leave little bits of cranberry skin in my smoothie.

Recipe FAQs

Can you eat raw cranberries in a smoothie?

Yes, I use raw, frozen cranberries for thickness. They are very tart so I like to sweeten the smoothie with other ingredients like bananas and agave nectar.

Can you make it ahead of time?

Although it might be okay in the fridge for a couple of hours, I don't recommend waiting longer than that to consume the smoothie. The texture starts to degrade pretty quickly.

Can you use fresh instead of frozen?

You definitely can. The difference will be that the smoothie will turn out a bit less thick than it would with frozen cranberries.
