Avocado Smoothie

This avocado smoothie is doubled up on creaminess with its combination of avocado and banana. That’s probably its most notable feature that sets it apart from other smoothies. It also has an interesting flavor combination which I find quite enjoyable.

Avocado is my new favorite blending vegetable because of its creaminess and mild flavor that blends well with other fruits and vegetables. I know it’s technically a fruit but it is eaten more so like a vegetable so that is what most people consider it. If you like green vegetable smoothies like this one, you might also enjoy this kale smoothie or my spinach smoothie with blueberries.

🥑Ingredients

  • plain almond milk – Vanilla flavored is okay too but make sure it isn’t sweetened.
  • lime juice – Freshly squeezed as always.
  • liquid honey – You can make this smoothie vegan by omitting the honey or replacing it with agave nectar or another sweetener.
  • ripe avocado – Read more about how to tell if your avocado is ripe below.
  • frozen banana and frozen pineapple – You can find them pre-frozen at the supermarket or you can freeze your own by simply cutting them, placing them on baking sheets and freezing until solid.

🥣How to Make it

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a blender jar.
  2. Blend on high speed until smooth.
  3. Transfer to a glass and serve!

✅Tips

As we all know, avocado is prone to browning and it does so fairly quickly. One way to combat that in a smoothie is to add an acid like I did in this recipe. It’s not likely it will take you more than a few hours to drink this smoothie, but just in case, it’s armed with lime juice and pineapple.

Here is how to tell if your avocados are perfectly ripe and ready to use:

  • You should go by both color and feel.
  • The color will have changed from a bright green to a much deeper green.
  • The texture will be slightly soft when you add gentle pressure.
  • If it’s mushy when you apply pressure, it’s too ripe.
  • At this point, it’s ready to blend. If you still need a day until you plan on making the smoothie, transfer the ripe avocados to the fridge.

Avocados are a nutrient-dense superfood. One of their health benefits is they contain monounsaturated fat, which is a heart-healthy good fat. They can actually increase the absorption of other nutrients like vitamins A, D, K and E.
