Beet Smoothie

Sharing is caring!

This beet smoothie has a little bit of that earthy, sweet flavor that beets are known for. They are combined with orange juice, vanilla yogurt, frozen bananas and strawberries to make the flavors really pop. That beautiful, bright pink color makes it fun to drink, too!

Even my kids love this smoothie, so I’m happy to serve them some vegetables this way! I also have a few more vegetable smoothie recipes you might like: zucchini smoothie, blueberry spinach smoothie and creamy avocado smoothie.

Ingredients

Beet smoothie ingredients prepped on baking sheet.
  • fresh orange juice – Freshly squeezed is best but if needed you can use prepared orange juice; I suggest o.j. without added sugars.
  • vanilla Greek yogurt – I use sweetened and full fat but you can use light if needed.
  • raw beetroot – Peeled and chopped. We are not cooking the beets in this recipe.
  • bananas – Sliced and frozen, for sweetness and thickness.
  • strawberries – Sliced and frozen.

Recipe FAQs

Are beet stems good in smoothies?

It should be okay to add a few beet stems to your smoothie. The greens have a mild earthy flavor, just like the vegetable and the stems are a little more fibrous but not too tough.

Do beets need to be cooked before blending?

There is no need to cook the beets before blending. I prefer raw beets in my smoothies but I do peel them first.

Can we eat beetroot and banana together?

This smoothie combines both beetroot and banana together; the sweetness of the banana complements the earthy flavor of the beets.
