Sometimes I like my coffee chilled, like on a hot summer day, and this is my go to recipe for that occasion. Plus, it’s a great way to add some fiber to your morning cuppa. Some of my other smoothies high in fiber are this oatmeal smoothie and zucchini smoothie.

For the Sugar Rim (Optional):

  • sugar – white granulated sugar works best for the rim but you can also use brown sugar
  • cinnamon – to flavor the sugar
  • maple syrup – this is used to wet the rim so that the sugar sticks

For the Coffee Smoothie:

  • coffee – Strong black brewed coffee that has been chilled.
  • half and half cream – Just like you’d add to your regular coffee.
  • sugar – I use white sugar but you can use an alternative sweetener.
  • vanilla extract – Can use artificial or pure.
  • instant coffee – This is going to give you a more bold coffee flavor so that it doesn’t get washed out by the other ingredients in the smoothie.
  • banana – Pre-sliced and frozen. I find that this is a necessary ingredient to bind all of the ingredients together. If you don’t add it the mixture will end up thinner and much less smooth. It also adds some natural sweetness. If you can’t stand the taste of bananas, try using a different frozen fruit instead that you won’t mind adding to the taste of your coffee such as avocado or mango.
  • ice cubes – The ice cubes will also help thicken and chill the smoothie. You can add more or less depending on the thickness you are looking for.
  • peanut butter – This is optional. It gives the smoothie a little more creaminess and a hint of peanut butter flavor/scent; which I personally love. It also adds some protein and other nutrients.

Recipe FAQs

Can you put raw ground coffee in smoothie?

I wouldn’t recommend adding the raw coffee grind to your smoothie. Instant coffee and cold brewed coffee, however, taste great in a smoothie.

How do you caffeinate a smoothie?

Simply add some brewed coffee that has been chilled along with common smoothie ingredients like frozen bananas, milk or almond milk, etc.
