Watermelon Smoothie

Sharing is caring!

This watermelon smoothie is an excellent choice if you’re looking to stay fresh and hydrated with its natural abundance of H2O. It has a mild but sweet and creamy flavor with the addition of bananas, Greek yogurt and a touch of honey. Strawberries add a deeper red color and the lime juice adds some zip.

It’s a perfect alternative to snacking on the fruit on a hot day if you’re looking for something a little more chilled and sip-worthy. With its bright color, juiciness and delicious flavor, watermelon blended into a smoothie is a fun and tasty way to beat the heat.

Some more refreshing smoothies that I made include this strawberry-kiwi smoothie and sour apple smoothie.

🍉Ingredients

Watermelon smoothie ingredients prepped on black background.
  • water – You can substitute with juice or milk but it might drown out the mild flavor of the watermelon.
  • lime juice – Adds a bit of zip to the smoothie.
  • honey – I add honey because it isn’t quite sweet enough for me without it but feel free to omit it if that’s not the case for you.
  • Greek yogurt – I like a creamy smoothie and Greek yogurt is so velvety and thick, making it a nice addition to the smoothie.
  • frozen seedless watermelon – I normally buy my fruit pre-frozen from the supermarket, but in the case of watermelon, I have yet to find a brand that uses nicely ripe, sweet, red watermelon. It’s usually lacking in color and flavor so I like to buy it fresh, especially when they are on sale, and then chop and freeze it myself.
  • frozen strawberries – For extra color and flavor. Choose strawberries that are medium size.
  • frozen banana slices – The bananas also add sweetness and creaminess and it’s a great way to use up bananas that are starting to brown, if you’re getting tired of a banana bread. Simply slice and freeze them on a cookie sheet.

❓Recipe FAQs

What are the health benefits of a watermelon smoothie?

One of the main benefits that probably comes to mind when you’re thinking of a watermelon is how hydrating it is. And you would be correct, because it is made up of 92% water. I can’t think of a sweeter, more satisfying way to quench your thirst.

Do watermelon and banana go together?

Yes, they are a delicious combination. Their flavors complement each other nicely, with the sweetness of the banana balancing out the refreshing juiciness of the watermelon. The contrasting textures also add to the appeal.

Can watermelon be frozen to use in smoothies?

Definitely, and I prefer my watermelon frozen in a smoothie. It thickens and chills it nicely, plus it’s still easy to blend.
